One time, I found a Jamie Oliver YouTube video that very simply showed me how to perfectly sear tuna.
Then, I John, Wyatt, and Hudson actually caught tuna and I realized I’d forgotten every delicious morsel of advice that cute young Brit told me.
If I weren’t quite so lazy (or had better WiFi), I’d look up that video to make sure I’m giving you solid advice. But I’m not and I don’t so instead, I’m telling you exactly what I do whenever we catch tuna (which is like fives times. Ever.)
What to Do:
- Catch a tuna. Preferably two
- Fillet it if it’s too small to cut into steaks (like ours always are)
- Google “how do you fillet a fish” if you can’t find anyone to do it for you, Amen for John
- Heat a sesame oil in a hot skillet
- Add tuna
- Sprinkle (heavily) some sesame seeds on top (because in food porn pics, seared tuna always has sesame seeds on the edges)
- Turn the tuna over so all sides get a bit o’ searing
- When the cooked part of the tuna (it turns white) seems like enough (all personal preference here — I mean, you can literally eat it raw as sashimi if you want), put it on a plate, on a salad, or on a scoop of rice and take a photo. Congrats — you did it.
